Diablitos Cantina

Diablitos Cantina

December 13th 12:12pm, 2011

Diablitos Cantina, the latest project by Dr. Gurpreet Padda and Ami Grimes – owners of Café Ventana, Sanctuaria and Chuy Arzola’s – debuts this week. The cantina, located at 3761 Laclede Ave., previously home to now-shuttered Iggy’s Mexican Cantina, will offer a variety of Mexican eats. The selection of small bites, known as bocaditos, will include the likes of quesadillas, street corn and sopitos (small corn patties filled with refried beans and garnishes). Other items will include huaraches (Mexican-style pizzas made with flour tortillas), enchiladas and a wide selection of taco and fajita platters. Diablitos will also be open for breakfast, serving up a small selection of traditional morning fare including egg dishes, churros and Mexican pastries, as well as south-of-the-border-style hot chocolate and coffee.

Drinks at Diablitos will focus around tequila, with more than 100 tequilas to be stocked behind the bar. (For $20, tequila enthusiasts can join the Diablitos drink club, called Tequila 101, and sip their way through the tequila schooling.) The cocktail menu, according to bar manager Angie Cornish, will feature a dozen or so drinks, eight of which will use house-infused tequilas. Margarita lovers will find their favorite Mexican tipple among the beverage offerings, along with horchata, beer and wine.

The restaurant opens this Friday for dinner at 4 p.m. Lunch service will be served daily at 11 a.m., beginning Jan. 2, and breakfast service will begin on Jan. 23.
